Ten people died on Monday morning in a road accident involving a passenger bus and trailer at Tula area on Mwingi-Garissa road.
Tana North Police Commander Tom Okoth said the driver of the Wajir-bound bus carrying more than 60 passengers rammed into a lorry that had stalled on the road.
Due to the heavy impact from the collision, the trailer tore into the bus ripping away windows and part of the roof killing 10 passengers on the spot while scores of others sustained severe injuries.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, 14 injured passengers were rushed to Garissa Provincial General Hospital.
“Fourteen people with severe injuries evacuated to Garissa Provincial General Hospital by Kenya Red Cross and Garissa County Ambulance after a PSV Bus rammed into a stalled trailer at Tula along Garissa-Nairobi road,” tweeted Kenya Red Cross.
