Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya is to hold a retreat to allow members agree in filing vacant positions among them chairmanship after Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana relinquished the post.
Party Vice Chairman Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr said the retreat will be held at a date and venue to announced later in the next one or two weeks time.
The decision was arrived at during today’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which was held at Wiper House in Karen, Nairobi.
The earlier media reports that the NEC meeting would ratify the appointment of Ambassador Chirau Ali Mwakwere as chairman was shelved and the meeting agreed to organise a retreat to further deliberate on the matter before filling it.
Mutula Kilonzo Jr briefed the press soon after NEC meeting which began shortly after 11am and concluded after 1.30pm. It was attended by party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as well as Mwakwere, Deputy Party Leader Shakila Abdalla, the party organising Secretary Robert Mbui who is also minority leader, SG Judith Sijeny, DSG Peter Mathuki among others.
Mutula when asked why Makueni Governor, the Wiper chairman does not attend party meetings said he was free to attend or not to.
He said the NEC meeting also affirmed the party’s resolve to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government determination to fight graft.
He said the meeting also agreed to support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which was formed after President Kenyatta and opposition Chief Raila Odinga agreed to work together during the March 9, 2018 handshake.
