Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa was arrested Wednesday morning after one person was shot dead during a fracas that erupted at the home of ODM candidate Reuben Katana in Ganda ward on Tuesday evening.

Police arrested her at 2am from her home after she had left the scene of the fracas where the person was short dead.

Trouble allegedly started after Jumwa stormed the home with a view to disrupt the meeting between Katana and ODM agents for the Thursday’s by elections, saying the campaign period was over.

The deceased Ngumbao Jola, an uncle to Katana, was shot on the shoulder and died upon arrival at Malindi Hospital.

It’s not clear who fired the killer bullet.

Jumwa said she stormed the meeting that was attended by more than 300 people because it was being held past the campaign period.

It is reported that Jumwa stormed a meeting where the ODM was training its agents ahead of the Thursday elections.

This comes at a time when ODM party and the Malindi MP have been locking horns ahead of the by-elections with the Orange party sending its Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna to the ward to ensure the party retains the seat. We

The Malindi MP, despite being an ODM member, has been supporting an Independent Candidate Omar Mohamed.

Mohamed was declared the winner of 2017 elections on the ODM ticket but ditched the party after court nullified his election.

Jumwa is reported to have sworn to teach the ODM party a lesson in the by-election for attempting to oust her on the grounds of associating with Deputy President William Ruto.

ODM party, however, has put a spirited fight in ensuring that its dominance in the coastal region is not in doubt.

The party sent Sifuna, who has been in the ward for more than a week, to ensure their candidate clinches the seat.
