Green Africa Foundation in partnership with Kajiado County Government and other stakeholders Monday launched a new tree planting drive themed ‘Plant your age tree’.
The new initiative is to encourage Kenyans to plant trees reflecting their age to popularize green revolution and conserve the environment.
Other stakeholders who took part during the launch of the exercise in Rongai, Kajiado County included Alladin Foundation, Compact Poles, Kazi mtaani, Ewaso Nyiro South Development Authority and Kenya Forest Service.
Speaking at the event Green Africa Foundation Founder and President Dr Isaac Kalua said the new drive is aimed at promoting tree planting to reach between 40 to 50 percent of forest cover in the country.
“We are here to launch plant your age tree exercise where we encourage Kenyans to plant trees equivalent of their age”, he said adding that the motive is being conscious of environment and the enormous benefits from trees including and not limited to cleansed oxygen we breath.
He said the new drive is a reflection of how trees promote good environment, good health and kind livelihood among other benefits.
Kajiado North MP Joseph Manje whose constituency, the function took place appreciated the drive and echoed statements by other speakers in encouraging promoting tree planting agenda to increase the forest cover.
“To me Green Africa Foundation is my hero. And I am happy with the organization for initiating such an important exercise”, he said.
